Cesc
Fabregas sent Spain through to the European Championship final with
the winning penalty in a shootout after the holders were frustrated by a
dogged Portugal side for 120 minutes.
The
match failed to live up to its billing, with Paulo Bento's side having
the better of the game in the first half. Spain improved as the match
wore on but the Portuguese continued to be resolute in defence, and it
took until the first half of extra time until the game's first
clear-cut chance.
Rui
Patricio saved brilliantly from Andres Iniesta, who really should have
scored when Jordi Alba's cut-back found him unmarked eight yards out.
